Dewclaws

The first trip

It was time for the first trip to the vet today for the puppies. They are now four days old, good timing to remove the dewclaws. That is something we rarely do in Sweden so if you ever come here and want to know who is from Sweden and who is born here in the US… look at their dewclaws… There are a couple of exceptions. I didn’t remove them on the B-litter, just because I didn’t know that you did it here and Tango’s breeder didn’t remove them either. I have never had any problems with dewclaws on my dogs at all so I feel it is a little bit overdo sometimes. But if that is standard to do, then I will do it. It is nothing painful on them so… So, off to Terrell Vet Center.

Dr. New is removing the dewclaws

Some vets cut the dewclaws off but Dr. New burn them off, something I like a lot better. It went faster for the puppies and I think it was less painful for them too. It was done in a heart beat since it was only five puppies and it was only on the front paws that it had to be done. So now is that done! The puppies did great and Candy was outdoors while they were gone so she  just smelled that they smelled different but didn’t show any signs of dislike when she got back. I also got a deworm shot for Candy that I gave her when I got home and I bought a vaccination shot for her too. Have to be extra careful with the job I have. Don’t want to pull anything home from work…

The big boy Tango

The big boy Tango is doing great today. He is not limping at all. So his little injury yesterday wasn’t that bad after all. But he enjoyed all the attention he got out of it so he might just limp to get attention *lol*.  They learn pretty fast!

Today is my grandmother’s birthday. So if anyone sees her in Sweden, say Happy Birthday, even if it might be late with the time difference… mom talked to her on the phone this morning while I was at the vet to wish her Happy Birthday but I haven’t talked to her myself! We sent a card that I hope got there in time but with regular mail around the world – you never know, sometimes it takes weeks! Just crazy but true.

Let the horses out on a pasture with more grass today. I need to get them new halters when I get my paycheck so I can let them out on the whole property. After this last rain the grass is growing like crazy. I just love it! Well, I hate it as well because I have to start mowing too… always something positive with the negative. But I think this might be the last two bales of hay I have to order for a while too :) Then it is just to stock for next winter! And I guess we have to be better prepared than we were this year… but with only four horses it will get a lot easier too!!

Well, time to get home again and just relax. This day has gone as fast as yesterday. I really didn’t know that just because someone figured out that it is spring the clock speed up too… this is just crazy! But, keep on going… That’s all you can do!

Woke up a couple of times by the rain last night. It was a bad storm that came in but no damages as far as we know on our farm. Just a lot of water. But that is good. Both mom and I agreed of things getting greener already just by this rain. Today is first day of spring too. And OMG, someone turned up the speed again. I got out of bed 9:10 am and went to work. It was nice being back after two days off. A couple of new dogs in, the day started with an adoption – always fun! Then out of nowhere it was lunch! It felt like I just got to work and now it was 1:30. Went home, let some dogs out since the rain had stopped, picked up mom, grabbed some lunch (baked potato at Sweet Southern Chill) and I ate way too much. Was whining when I got back to work, could barely roll around in my chair because I was so filled up. Took some calls on the street, picked up a pregnant Chihuahua and had to start working on getting her adopted out. Seems like she might get a new home tomorrow!!! Don’t ask me how I do it but Facebook rocks!!! And my Facebook friends are just awesome helping reposting, sharing and liking the pictures and posts! If any of you reads this: THANK YOU!!! And out of nowhere again, I realized it was 6:45 pm, time to close the shelter for the night and go home. I just left home!!!

Changed dogs when I got home, let Candy out without her puppies. She is doing good! I will take the puppies to the vet tomorrow to remove their dewclaws! Good to have that done as soon as possible. So 8 am, I will be at Terrell Vet Clinic. *note to myself so I don’t forget*

Tango has hurt his left hind paw. Probably ran too fast in the grass, I don’t consider it serious right now but he needs to rest a couple of days. How on earth do you keep Tango in rest? And with a couple of bitches in heat all around the farm? Just asking? That is almost impossible I guess but we will have to take one day at a time and put him in a big crate if necessary… It is always something, right?

I don’t have any good picture to share today… I am too tired to look for one. But I guess you will survive anyway! Tomorrow is my grandmothers birthday so if you see her in Vetlanda, Sweden, say Happy Birthday!!!

New Schedule

I finally made it home! But it has been a fun day. Terrell Veterinary Center let me come and visit them all morning to learn how to set an IV catheter, surgery prep and all kind of good stuff with spay and neuter. Also did some dental work, well I just helped out with the preparation. But it was good timing because they were one man short and some of that work was really easy for me and good to learn. Even if I might not have use for it tomorrow, it is always good to be able to answer peoples questions… knowledge is power right
When I got back from work, this is what met me… I am not joking. 9 puppies, approx 3 weeks old. Some of them just opened their eyes. Six boys, three girls. Seems to be in a very good condition. Their mother is such a nice dog. She let me take care of them, I took a walk with her, she nursed them and everything was fine. But as long as they are at the shelter – I will be working overtime… I started right away with trying to find a fosterplace for them or someone willing to adopt them as soon as possible. Chief just gave me the whole Thursday off so I could help mom to clean her house, we get guests over the weekend but unless we got this out tomorrow, I sure will have to get to work two or three times on Thursday too… so if you know anyone that are able to help us with this guys, please let me know. Please help me spread the word about them…

Effective tomorrow, I will work 10 am to 7pm. The reason is that I usually don’t do anything very effective between 6 to 8 in my opinion and it is when I get off work that people who wants to adopt are able to come and look at the dogs… I talked to chief about it when he was down at the shelter today and he just changed it right away. I don’t mind at all… as much as I enjoy coming home 3:15 pm (which is rare anyway) I will enjoy coming on at 10 am…

Well, I am waiting for mom to come home with some food. This day has been so crazy so I have not been able to eat lunch… yehaa. So when that is eaten I will head out to the doghouse and the barn to clean and fix that… I will probably wake up tomorrow morning at 4:30am anyway because my body is set on that time now so I need to go to bed fairly early…

Thanks for all good response here on the blog! Wow, I haven’t had so many comments in I don’t know how long time. It was even more comments than on my birthday! :) I like that! I guess I don’t have much more to tell for today. Will keep you updated about the nine puppies… just crazy!
